Wave and Tropical Cyclones
There remain many questions about the surface wave field under the influence of tropical cyclones. During our 2010 ITOP experiment off the coast of Taiwan we were able to collect a very good data set. Most of my dissertation work will involve the analysis of this data. There are several aspects to explore: wave parameters (i.e. wave height, period, direction) in the context of storm parameters (i.e. distance, maximum wind speed, transnational speed, trajectory), the directional distribution of the wave field, wave statistics and the occurrence of extreme waves, and other as of yet unforeseen areas of study.

ITOP ASIS RecoveryThis is a time lapse video of a recovery of an ASIS bouy. The ship is the R.V. Roger Revelle and we are somewhere in the South China Sea.
