In July 2009 a 4m-diameter, temporary, polyethylene pond was sealed to the Madonna della Mazza (MdM) quarry floor and 2952 liters of water were infiltrated over 30 hours. The pond footprint is still visible even after the experiment since the rock surface has been polished to remove superficial coating and facilitate water infiltration. 4D GPR method was used to describe, with precision and high resolution, water-flow patterns and dynamics in the subsurface.
