Bachelor of Arts in Marine Affairs
The Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science (RSMAS) and the College of Arts and Sciences jointly offer a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Marine Affairs and a minor in Anthropology, Communication, Economics, Geography, General Business or Political Science. This program is designed for students who wish to prepare themselves for graduate studies and careers in ocean related areas of business, policy, management, law, and communication.
Bachelor of Arts students are required to complete 53-60 credits of the general education requirements of the College of Arts and Sciences along with the core requirements for a major in Marine Affairs and chosen minor.
The General Education Requirements for the B.A. degree are:
- English Composition (6 credits: ENG 105 and ENG 106 or ENG 107)
- Humanities (12 cr)
- Social Sciences (12 credits which must include ECO 211)
- Mathematics (6 credits: MTH 101 or MTH 107 and one of the following: MTH 103,
- MTH 108, MTH 109, MTH 111 or MTH 131)
The required Marine Affairs courses are:
- Biology 150, 160
- Chemistry 111, 112
- Marine Science 111, 215, 230, 313 or 314, Geological Sciences 110 , 114 and eight credits of approved electives in Marine Science
- Economics 211, 345
- One approved course in computer programming or statistics
- Courses, which satisfy the minor, are listed in the University Bulletin under the individual departments. Choice of courses for the minor must be approved by an advisor.

MARINE AFFAIRS/GENERAL BUSINESS (12 CREDITS)
Required: Accounting 211, Management 304, Finance 300, and Marketing 301 -
MARINE AFFAIRS/COMMUNICATION (15 CREDITS)
Courses taken for a minor in Communications must be approved in advance by the Associate Dean of the School of Communications. -
MARINE AFFAIRS/ECONOMICS (12 CREDITS)
Required: Economics 211, 212, 345
Approved: Any one of the following: Economics 301, 302, 307, 355, 407, 411 -
MARINE AFFAIRS/GEOGRAPHY (15 CREDITS) Required: Geography 105
Approved: Geography 121 or 122, 199, 304 or 390, 391, 481 or 491 -
MARINE AFFAIRS/POLITICAL SCIENCE (12 CREDITS)
Required: Political Science 211, 212
Approved: Any two of the following: Political Science 321, 322, 331, 335, 337, 351, 397 or 398
