| Three common aquatic amphibians are: the Great Siren (Siren lacertian), which ranges from Maryland to Florida; the Mud Puppy (Necturus maculosus), which is found from Canada to the Tennessee and Missouri river systems; and the Spring Salamander (Gyrinophilus porphyriticus), which occurs from Quebec to Alabama. A good source of general information is the book Living Amphibians of the World, by Dr. Doris M. Cochran, published in 1961 by Doubleday. |
