CATEGORIES

†All trip awards are for one person and do not include airfare, gratuities, equipment rentals, courses, park fees, hotel stays, port taxes, etc and are subject to availability. Other restrictions apply to all trips.

Winners will be announced at Rosenstiel School's Sea Secrets Lecture Series on April 13 at 6:15 p.m. at Rosenstiel School, 4600 Rickenbacker Causeway. Paul Humann, renowned underwater photographer, is that evening's lecturer, discussing, “Surprising Marine Life of the Seafloor's Sand, Muck and Rubble.” Winners will be recognized at the reception that precedes the lecture in the school library at 5:30 p.m. The Sea Secrets lecture is free and open to the public, but seating is limited.

RULES

  1. The RSMAS Underwater Photography Contest is open to all amateur photographers. Amateur photographers are those who earn no more than 20% of their income from their photography. Eligible photos are those that have not been published or accepted for publication and must have been taken by the person submitting the entry.
  2. No pool or aquarium shots will be accepted.
  3. Photos will be judged by professional photographers and marine scientists. All decisions will be final.
  4. Ownership and copyright of all entries remain with the photographer. RSMAS reserves the right to publish the winning photos without compensation for educational purposes, including, but not limited to publication on the University of Miami/RSMAS websites, in brochures or for future contest promotion. The winning photographs will also be printed and used as a traveling exhibit within the University of Miami community. Proper credit will be given to all winners.
  5. Submitted photos will not be returned, so it is suggested that only duplicates be submitted.
  6. Contestants are limited to 3 entries per category.
  7. Winner will be announced at the Sea Secrets Lecture Series on April 13th.

SUBMISSION

  1. All entries must be 35mm slides, printed photos, or high resolution digital files in JPEG format submitted electronically to photocontest@rsmas.miami.edu or on CD-ROM and accompanied by an official entry form. Images may be optimized (i.e. adjusted while maintaining the integrity of the image), but not altered such that an image does not reflect the actual subject matter.
  2. Slides should be labeled individually with the name, address and phone number of the entrant and the category entered.
  3. Digital images should be a minimum of 150 dpi at 8.5 x11 inches. If submitted on CD-ROM, include name address and phone number, as well as category entered for each image included.
  4. Images sent via email must include name, address and phone number of entrant and category entered for each photo in the email.
  5. Prints must be at least 8.5 x 11 and include the name, address and phone number of the entrant and category written on the back.
  6. All CDs, slides or prints should be sent to:
