Editing Your Group Pages

Introduction

The Rosenstiel School web site is under control of the content management system (CMS) Expression Engine (EE). As such, authorized users are allowed to edit pages of the web site. This web page is a tutorial on how to edit pages using a web browser, preferably one that is standards compliant like Safari, Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox.

Structure, a third-party addon to Expression Engine, creates pages and generates the navigation (top level menus and the side bar menus) used in this site. The following screenshots should get your started.

Log In

You'll obtain log in information and the host to connect to from the .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). This is what the log in screen looks like:

This is a display of the top-level navigation for the Rosenstiel site (along with some hidden items).

Your Group’s Pages

Now click on Show Children in the Research Groups entry to display the following:

Editing a Page

Next click on Team to edit the page. Hint: Open this link in a separate tab/window else after saving your edits you’ll have to click your way thru the Structure tree to return to this spot. Click with the right button (Windows) or command-click (Mac OS X) to bring up a contextual menu.

Edit the page’s content in the Body text box. The editor is mostly WYSIWYG. Visit the CKeditor home page for more information. If you are familiar with HTML click on the icon labeled #1 to switch to the raw HTML editor. Click on the icon labeled #2 to switch from/to full-screen editing. If you click on the Structure tab you will be able to change the look of the page from 3 columns to 2 columns. In the Structure Template dropdown, select pages/default.r for a 3 column look or select pages/default_full.r for a 2 column look.

Saving Your Edits

After editing the content of a page, click on the Submit button at the bottomw of the window to save your changes.

If you wish to discard the current edits just click on the Structure button located at the top of the window and you’ll see the Structure tree for the web site displayed again. If you right-clicked to get to the Edit page, just close the window.
