Annual membership is $25 for students, $50 for staff and $100 for faculty. Any other categories (University of Miami Alumni, retirees, Board of Trustees, Citizens Board members and their spouses and dependents) require the $50 annual fee. This is a flat fee, not prorated.
The Fitness Center is for your enjoyment. Please help the staff by taking care of the fitness center and leaving it cleaner than when you arrived. With all of us working together, we can enjoy this facility for years to come.
The fitness center policies and procedures are subject to change without notice.
MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION
Membership to the Fitness Center is open to the Rosenstiel campus defined as students, full-time or permanent part-time faculty and staff and their spouses and dependents.
*Membership has been extended to include University of Miami Alumni, retirees, Board of Trustees, Citizens Board members and their spouses and dependents.
Documentation for faculty, staff or student is the UM identification card. Misrepresenting your affiliation with the University of Miami to obtain membership will result in termination of the membership without refund.
Length of membership to the Fitness Center is for January 1 – December 31 each year.
The Fitness Center will charge a $20 fee on all returned checks.

GENERAL POLICIES
The following policies have been established to provide a safe, well maintained, and comfortable environment in the fitness center. Patrons are responsible for following these policies.
- The Fitness Center operates on an “exercise at your own risk” policy.
- A valid University of Miami identification card is required to use the Fitness Center.
- Members attempting to help non-members illegally enter the Fitness Center will risk forfeiture of membership.
- The Fitness Center is an alcohol and tobacco free facility.
- The following are prohibited: Eating or drinking, chewing gum, bicycles, skateboards, roller blades and roller skates, animals and horseplay
- Amplified sound without the use of earphones
- Personal belongings, such as duffle bags and purses are prohibited in the workout spaces of the Fitness Center. Some daily lockers are available on a first come first served basis.
- The University of Miami cannot guarantee the security of valuables, book bags or other personal articles left unattended. Report any incidents of theft or loss to RSMAS Security. 305.710.7991.
- Personal locks are allowed on the lockers only while using the Fitness Center but not overnight. Any locks left on at the end of the day will be removed. Members will not be reimbursed for personal locks that have been removed.
- Commercial purposes such as giving instructions, sales, advertising, or promotional activities in the Fitness Center must be approved by the Facilities and Safety Committee prior to any such activity. Requests are made via Facilities Administration.
- Videotaping and photography, including camera phones are unauthorized in the Fitness Center without prior approval from Facilities Administration.
- All Fitness Center equipment shall remain in its designated areas.
- Report all equipment, maintenance, or safety problems or issues to the Facilities Administration staff immediately at 305.421.4815. Do not use any equipment if in doubt of your safety.
- Language and behavior should be appropriate for a family oriented University setting.
- Food and beverages, except water bottles, are prohibited in the workout space.
- Individuals involved in any behavior in violation of the Fitness Center policies, for example, fighting or destruction of property, will automatically forfeit their privileges to use the Fitness Center.
- All rules are subject to change by the Facilities and Safety Committee.
- The Fitness Center, or a portion of, may be closed to members upon occasion, upon prior notice, for maintenance and select University-related events. Memberships will not be credited or extended for any closures.
- Animals, with the exception of guide dogs, are not permitted in the facility.
- Personal items such as cell phones should be stowed away from the machine area. For safety reasons, baby carriers, strollers and baby joggers are not permitted in the fitness room.
- Only qualified and approved personal trainers may perform personal training. Coral Gables Wellness Center staff will approve personal trainers.
- Appropriate exercise attire is required. T-shirts, shorts, warm-up suits, sweat suits, tennis clothing and athletic shoes are acceptable when working out. Sandals, open-toe shoes, hard soled shoes, string tank tops, cut-off or mesh tank tops, jeans, street clothing and anything which compromises the safety and professionalism of the fitness room are prohibited.
- For sanitary purposes, an appropriate sized 12-24” towel is required to work out. Equipment should be wiped down after each use.
- Users unfamiliar with the exercise equipment should seek help from the handout brochures and periodic scheduled classes.
- Report all equipment problems to Facilities Administration staff, including jammed, frayed, loose, or worn parts. Do not use any equipment if you are in doubt of your safety. 305-421-4815.
- Individuals are limited to 30 minutes per machine unless no one is waiting to use the machine.
- All weight training should be performed in a controlled safe manner. Slamming, dropping, or bouncing of weights (both on machines and free weights) is prohibited. Olympic lifting is prohibited. For personal safety, lifters are encouraged to work out with a partner.
- Dumbbell use is limited to one set of dumbbells at any one time. Weight collars are required for the free weight area. All free weights and dumbbells must be replaced to appropriate racks when finished.
- For safety reasons, use of personal headphones is strongly discouraged in the free weight areas. Weight gloves and wrist straps are allowed. The use of chalk is prohibited.
- A limit of 3 people may use any single station at one time. Be courteous to others by limiting the length of stay at a single station to acceptable limits. Do not loiter on the equipment while resting so that others may also use the equipment.
