Cane Card and Access Control

As of August 05, 2013, RSMAS Cane Card printing and programming has been transferred to the Facilities Customer Service Desk located in North Grosvenor 103.  Below is additional information on the standardized process that will be used for obtaining access and Cane Cards.

WHO SHOULD HAVE A CANE CARD?

All UM employees and students will be issued a Cane Card.  Any visitor, affiliate, contractor, or vendor who is working on campus for a period of five days or more will be required to request a Cane Card.  Any visitor or affiliate who will be on-campus for a period of five days or less will not be eligible for an access card.  The sponsoring department will be required to escort and provide access to short-term visitors and affiliates.

HOW DO I GET A CANE CARD?

New Students
1. During orientation all new students will receive a Cane Card.  The Graduate Studies and Masters in Professional Science Office will coordinate appointments with the Facilities Customer Service Desk so new students can have their picture taken and Cane Card printed.  Government issued identification must be shown prior to being issued a Cane Card.
2. The student’s supervisor or academic division office must submit a work order via http://iservicedesk.facilities.miami.edu:83/RSMAS.html if the student requires access to specific offices, labs, or other interior areas.

New UM Faculty, Staff, Researchers, and Casual Workers
1. Prior to a new employee starting, Faculty Affairs and Human Resources will submit a work order online to the Facilities Customer Service Desk requesting a Cane Card.
2. On the first day of the new employee’s orientation, he/she will be escorted to the Facilities Customer Service Desk to have their picture taken and ID printed.  Government issued identification must be shown prior to the Cane Card being issued.
3. The employee’s supervisor must submit a work order via http://iservicedesk.facilities.miami.edu:83/RSMAS.html if the employee will need access to specific offices, labs, or other interior areas.

Visitors, Affiliates, Contractors, and Vendors
1. A C Number must be created prior to being issued a Cane Card
2. A C Number can be requested by filling out the online form at https://caneid.miami.edu/createnewaccount.aspx
3. After completing the form a C Number will be issued.
4. The Visitor, Affiliate, Contractor, or Vendor will then provide their RSMAS point of contact with the C Number.
5. The RSMAS point of contact must contact the Director of Faculty Affairs & Human Resources by emailing humanresources@rsmas.miami.edu with an explanation of the individual’s affiliation with RSMAS and request a Cane Card to be issued.
6. Once approved, the Director of Faculty Affairs & Human Resources will submit a work order online to the Facilities Customer Service Desk requesting a Cane Card to be issued.
7. After the work order is approved the visitor, affiliate, contractor, or vendor will be contacted and advised when they can have their picture taken and Cane Card printed.
8. There is a $20 printing fee (payable by credit card or IDR) for Cane Cards issued to non-UM personnel.
9. Government issued identification must be shown prior to the Cane Card being issued.
10. The RSMAS point of contact for the visitor, affiliate, contractor, or vendor must submit a work order via http://iservicedesk.facilities.miami.edu:83/RSMAS.html if the individual requires access to specific offices, labs, or other interior areas.

HOW DO I REPLACE A LOST OR STOLEN CANE CARD?

There will be no fee for stolen Cane Cards if a police case number is provided. The replacement fee for lost Cane Cards is $20.  Lost or stolen cards should be reported to the RSMAS Campus Safety Department (305-710-7991) and Facilities Customer Service Desk (305-421-4815) immediately. The card will be deactivated to prevent it from being used by an unauthorized person. If your card is damaged, you must bring the card with you to the Facilities Customer Service Desk and it will be replaced at no charge.

CANE CARD PRINTING

Cane Card services will be available Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM at the Facilities Customer Service Desk located in North Grosvenor 103.  Government issued identification and your UM C Number must be presented before the Cane Card can be printed.
