Explorer of the Seas
After more than seven years of operation, the University of Miami's Oceanographic and Atmospheric Laboratory Program aboard the Royal Caribbean Cruise Line Explorer of the Seas is being completely retooled. The university, with funding provided by RCCL is exploring innovative new technologies to enable fully autonomous environmental observations aboard voluntary observing vessels. The Explorer of the Seas would serve as the prototype and test bed for this new approach. Shipboard observations are being continued to the degree possible during this transition. Most prior data has already been archived and requests for data not available at http://oceanlab.rsmas.miami.edu/ should be made to Elizabeth Williams.
