GEORGE B. STORER FOUNDATION GIVES TO UM

Gift helps the Advancement of Marine Science and Business Education

Coral Gables, FL — The University of Miami announced today that it has received a generous gift of $205,000 from the George B. Storer Foundation to be utilized in the areas of marine science and business education at the University.

The foundation donated $105,000 to the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science, $5,000 of which will be used for the F.G. Walton Smith Scholarship Fund. The fund, which is named for the first dean of the Rosenstiel School, awards scholarships yearly to deserving students.

The foundation also gave $100,000 to the School of Business, earmarked for facility improvements at the school, according to Dean Paul Sugrue.

Named for the late George B. Storer, the founder of Storer Communications, the Storer Foundation provides support for higher education and social services, especially for the blind, youth organizations, conservation, hospitals, and cultural programs. Foundation president Peter Storer, a former University of Miami Trustee, and his wife, Virginia Parker Storer, are both alumni of the School of Business class of 1951.
