Discontinuous Galerkin Methods for Surface Water Flow Clint Dawson The University of Texas at Austin Abstract: DG methods have seen increased interest in the coastal and ocean modeling fields for several reasons: mass conservation, ability to model both smooth and highly advective flows, higher order approximations with hp adaptivity, and ease of handling local refinements. We will discuss our experiences in the development and application of discontinuous Galerkin (DG) methods for surface water flows, both in two and three dimensions.
