Singular vector decomposition (SVD) is applied on the covariance matrix between the sea surface temperature anomalies (SSTA) and the zonal wind anomalies. Expansion coefficient timeseries are computed for each singular mode. Also computed are the homogeneous and heterogeneous regression maps. The contribution of each mode is expressed as squared covariance fraction.
