Dr. Van Leer develops new instruments and methods to measure upper ocean dynamics and bottom boundary layer structure including organized turbulence. He has worked in the Fram Strait and Arctic Ocean on three expeditions measuring upper ocean frontal and eddy properties under the ice. He is presently working in air-sea interactions, coastal oceanography, bubble remediation applied to oxygenation or oil spills and catamaran research vessel design.
