National Ocean Science Bowl

The NOSB is a nationally recognized and highly acclaimed high school academic competition that provides a forum for talented students to test their knowledge of the marine sciences including biology, chemistry, physics, and geology. The Rosenstiel School, along with Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute host the Florida regional competition, the Manatee Bowl, yearly.

With Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution, the Rosenstiel School annually hosts the National Ocean Sciences Bowl (NOSB) Florida Regional Competition — “Jeopardy”-like competition to test students’ knowledge of math and science. This year the Manatee Bowl will take place in Miami, at MAST Academy (MAST) and the University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science (RSMAS).

Friday, December 10
Registration closes.

Friday, February 4

  • Check-in, 12:00–5:00pm, Dean’s Atrium in RSMAS Science and Administration Building.
  • Welcome dinner, 5:00pm, RSMAS Courtyard
  • Introduction and Q&A session, 6:00pm, RSMAS Auditorium

Saturday, February 5

  • Breakfast, 8:00am, MAST cafeteria
  • Round-robin competition, MAST
  • Lunch, MAST cafeteria
  • Double elimination competition, MAST
  • Final round and award ceremony, RSMAS Auditorium

The winning team will continue on to compete at Nationals against 24 other teams, Saturday — Monday, April 29–May 1, 2011 in Galveston, TX.
