Monica Medina (Ph.D. 1998, MBF)
Monica Medina is now an Associate Professor in the School of Natural Sciences at the University of California, Merced. Her research interests are phylogenetics and organelle genome evolution of marine invertebrate animals, and genomics of coral-zooxanthellae symbioses in Caribbean reefs.
Medina has been awarded a 2011 Guggenheim Fellowship for her work on “Biological robustness in a dynamic partnership: scleractinian corals and their algal symbionts.” Fellows are selected by a panel of scientists, who sift through thousands of applications. Congratulations to Dr. Medina for her wonderful accomplishment.
