Jeremy Mathis

Jeremy Mathis is an alumnus of the Marine & Atmospheric Chemistry Division, a former student of Dr. Dennis Hansell, and a past winner of the RSMAS Smith Award for top dissertation.  Mathis is now an assistant professor of chemical oceanography at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks, focusing on the cycling and fate of carbon and nitrogen in the marine environment and how they affect the ecosystem.

Mathis has been awarded the 2011 Alaska Ocean Leadership Award for Marine Research.  The award was given by the Alaska SeaLife Center at the Alaska Marine Gala.  Mathis earned the award for his groundbreaking work on carbon cycling and ocean acidification in northern waters.
