Univ. of Miami Graduate Student Featured on NBC Learn’s “Changing Planet”

MIAMI — February 28, 2011 — Rebecca Albright, a Ph.D. student in Marine Biology and Fisheries at the University of Miami (UM) Rosenstiel School of Marine & Atmospheric Science is featured on the NBC Learn’s new ‘Changing Planet’ educational series. The video, narrated by NBC News’ Chief Environmental Correspondent Anne Thompson, focuses on climate change and ocean acidification and is co-funded by the National Science Foundation.
Albright, who is part of the Rosenstiel School’s Climate Change Laboratory conducts research on the effects of ocean acidification on coral reef ecosystems. Last November she was lead author on a paper in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences that highlights the impacts of increasingly acidic oceans on the reproduction of elkhorn corals. The paper’s co-authors include, Chris Langdon and Benjamin Mason from UM’s Rosenstiel School and Margaret Miller of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Fisheries Service.
