Dear RSMAS Tonight at 6:30pm RSMAS is honored to host a night with the Wildlife Conservation Film Festival, which is here in Miami to coincide with Sustainatopia 2013. See attached flyer. Tonight’s line-up features films focusing on marine wildlife and conservation issues. We will be showing 10 short movies with a total screen time of about 80 mins. The event is free and open to the public, and refreshments will be included both before the event (outside the Auditorium) and after the event (at the bar) from festival sponsors. A special element of tonight’s event is that it will include a special opportunity to watch films by RSMAS student filmmakers Erica Staaterman and Patrick Rynne, as well as films from the Beneath the Waves film festival, now in its 4th year, which is founded and run by RSMAS graduate students Austin Gallagher and Erica Staaterman. The films will be followed by a Q&A on the film content with Rosenstiel faculty Beth Babcock and Andrew Baker; graduate students Austin Gallagher, Erica Staaterman and Patrick Rynne; and the founder of the Wildlife Conservation Film Festival Christopher Gervais. We will be showing the following films: · Manta Ray of Hope (7 mins) – Finning of Manta Rays · What would Darwin think? Man versus Nature in the Galapagos (28 mins) – Conservation problems in the Galapagos · Coral Reefs – Polyps in Peril (4 mins) – Threats to corals (Celine Cousteau) · Befriending Giants (5 mins) – Whale Sharks in the Philippines · The Story of Sharks (5 mins) – The ecological value of sharks · Mikono Ya Wavuvi (In Fishermen’s Hands) (9 mins) – Coral reef management practices in Kenya · Beachmasters of Ano Nuevo (4 mins) – Pacific Elephant Seals · Corals in Crisis (4 mins) – Threats to coral reefs · Mini Season (9 mins) – Lobsters in Florida by film-maker/grad student Erica Staaterman · Wet Lab (3 mins) – The RSMAS graduate student program by film-maker/grad student Patrick Rynne We look forward to seeing you at 6:30pm tonight!
