Abstract:
Mesoscale eddies affect large-scale ocean circulation by generating diverging eddy fluxes, that is, eddy forcing. Fluctuating (transient) eddy forcing part is rarely talked about, although its amplitude 
is by order of magnitude larger than the amplitude of the time-mean part of the eddy forcing, and its effect on the large-scale flow can be crucial. Dynamical underpinnings of the effects of transient eddy
forcing on large-scale circulation are explored by considering effects of spatially localized oscillatory forcing on wind-driven double gyres. The outcome is in terms of understanding what are the key eddy 
forcing parameters and locations.
