Dr. David Agnew is the Standards Director for the Marine Stewardship Council, who will deliver a presentation and hold a discussion on the role of certification in promoting sustainable fisheries.

He will review the certification system of the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) including the assessment process, benefits and costs associated with certification, and improvements to sustainability made in participating fisheries. He will close by outlining policy trends and strategic developments with respect to improving access to certification for data-limited fisheries.

David Agnew’s responsibilities include policy and standards development, research and monitoring, and strategic initiatives to enhance accessibility for developing country fisheries. He has broad interests in marine ecosystem and fisheries management issues worldwide.
