Born in London, England, but after completing his undergraduate degree, Dr. Papastamatiou  moved to the US for graduate school. He obtained a Masters from California State University Long Beach and a PhD at the University of Hawaii. He has conducted studies in many places including the tropical Pacific, the Everglades and Alaska. His interests are in the movements and physiological ecology of fishes, and the application of new tools to study their behavior remotely. He is also interested in the ecology of mesophotic reefs and the application of technical diving to marine ecology.
