Biologist and deep-sea explorer Edith Widder, co-founder, Ocean Research
and Conservation Association, combines her expertise in research and
technological innovation with a commitment to reversing the worldwide
trend of degradation in our marine environment. She is the co-founder of
the Ocean Research and Conservation Association and was awarded the
MacArthur Fellowship and participated in the TED Mission Blue Voyage in
the Galapagos in 2010. Dr. Edith Widder will share lessons learned from
30+ years in academia, industry and running a non-profit organization.
This workshop will discuss: 1. Switching specialties within the sciences –
from medical research to bio-luminescence 2. Moving among institutions –
developing collaborations between universities 3. Moving between research
science and conservation sciences – the balance between the two worlds
