Monday, March 19, 2012 Our upcoming speaker is Dr. Marcelo Blauth a visitor to RSMAS in the MGG department
The title of his talk is "Workflow for Geological Characterization and Modeling for the
Albian Carbonate Reservoirs from Abstract The new Petrobras oil discoveries in Aptian and Albian Carbonates from the Brazilian Margin Basins has promoted a big effort in terms of training, R&D projects and finally in establishing workflows to be applied
to this complex geological systems. It will be present a general workflow applied for geological characterization and modeling of the Brazilian Albian Carbonate Reservoirs. This workflow is being used in a long term training
program through an agreement between PETROBRAS and UNESP (
(1)
Cores and thin section description: Lithofacies and facies association description, diagenesis and identification of the high frequency cycles (HFC)on the cored wells;
(2)
Petrophysics and Rock-Log Correlation: CoreGama x Gamma Ray correlation to correct depth positioning. Porosity times permeability correlation by facies. Generation of porosity, saturation, permeability and logfacies in cored
and uncored wells using multivariate statistics. Cut-off definition. Comparison of the results with well test data.
(3)
High Resolution Stratigraphy: Stratigraphic correlation between the HFC identified on the cored wells and the HFC from uncored wells.
(4)
Seismic Interpretation.
Top, Base and sometimes intermediate horizon interpretation.
Fault plane mapping. Generation of the accoustic impedance volume.
(5)
Conceptual Geo Model Definition: Establishment of the depositional model of the field using analogs and available data/interpretation.
(6)
Definition of the 3D Structural-Stratigraphic Framework: Establishment of the 3D Geological Model to be populated with facies and petrophysical variables considering seismic horizons, fault planes and well markers.
(7)
3D Facies Modeling: Generation of the model 3D depositional and depositional-diagenetic facies using mono and plurigaussian non stationary geoestatistical modeling conditioned by facies proportion maps.
(8)
3D Petrophysical Modeling: Generation of a 3D porosity, permeability and saturation model conditioned by interpreted logs (phase 2), capillary pressure curves and acoustic impedance (phase 4).
(9)
Validation: It is an important phase of the workflow which has been applied after each individual phase using quantitative and qualitative criteria. It’s particular important after the 3D facies and petrophyscsical modeling phases.
(10)
Volumetrics and Export to Flow Simulation: OOIP calculation, upscaling and transferring of the geo-model to the flow Simulator. As a result, integrated models honoring all the available information are generated. Especially in old fields, carbonate reservoir dynamic models provide feedbacks to update, the geo-model
in order to find a better history match. In some fields fractures have an important rule in the Field production. In those cases Discrete Fracture Models are generated as well, considering all the available information. Uncertainties have been evaluated combining scenario plus probabilistic approaches. The integrated Static-Dynamic models are used for definition of the development plans as well as for the production forecasts and for the day by day reservoir management activities.
We hope to see you all there! Your GEOTOPICS Coordinators, Keri Vinas and Arash Sharifi
