Dear colleagues:

I thought this event might be of your interest. It is the 40th anniversary of the publication of the groundbreaking work in "Limits to Growth". For those of us who came of age in the 70s and 80s, this was perhaps the most forward-looking work of its times (and in many ways, it still is).

Whether you're a "Malthusian" fan or foe, this is a must-go. Two of the three original authors (Dennis Meadows and Jorgen Randers; unfortunately Donella Meadows passed away years back) will be there and give presentations (quite a treat very likely).

You can see the full program here: http://si.edu/Content/consortia/limits-to-growth.pdf. Try to catch the morning session particularly. If you cannot make it in person, it will be webcasted at http://www.clubofrome.org/?p=3392.

Best,

FMW

Dear Fernando:

Just a quick note about an event coming up in DC related to system dynamics. To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the launching of Limits to Growth, a joint symposium entitled “Perspectives on Limits to Growth: Challenges to Building a Sustainable Planet” will be hosted in Washington, DC by the Club of Rome and the Smithsonian Institution’s Consortium for Understanding and Sustaining a Biodiverse Planet.

Dennis Meadows and Jorgen Randers, two of the original authors of the work, will give presentations during the morning session that will focus on the lessons of Limits to Growth. The symposium will be held on Thursday, March 1st from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM in the Rasmuson Theater of the National Museum of the American Indian at 4th Street and Independence Avenue, SW on the National Mall.

To see the full schedule, a program statement can be found on the Society’s website
www.systemdynamics.org, or visit www.clubofrome.org for details. I expect this to be a very interesting and engaging event.

Best, Roberta
