Our upcoming speaker is Dr Jingfeng Wu From Department of Marine and Atmospheric Chemistry (MAC), RSMAS.
The title of his talk is "What controls dissolved iron distribution in the ocean?".


Summary
Iron is an essential micronutrient for algal growth in the ocean. The low solubility of inorganic iron at seawater pH leads to the strong depletion of dissolved iron in oceanic waters, the iron limitation of oceanic primary productivity, and the influence of oceanic iron cycle on ocean biological pump and glacial/interglacial changes of atmospheric carbon dioxide. During the past twenty years, there has been a great interest in understanding what controls dissolved Fe distribution in the ocean in order to appropriately include iron in ocean carbon cycle models. In this talk, the current understanding and future research directions on the processes controlling the distribution of dissolved iron in the ocean will be discussed.
