Our upcoming speaker is one of our own top scientists  at MGG: Dr Larry Peterson

The title of his talk is "From Agassiz to Ice Cores: The Evolution of our Understanding of Ice Ages".

ABSTRACT

This talk will take a historical perspective and examine the origins of Ice Age theory in the 1800’s and the development of the classical Ice Age model from land-based work by glacial geologists in the early twentieth entury. The story will continue with how marine geologists saved the day through the study of deep sea cores, proving that Ice Ages have been a frequent occurrence largely paced by orbital changes and amplified by natural variations in atmospheric gas content. The role of RSMAS in the development of paleoceanography will be reviewed and tales of epic personality clashes and debauchery will be provided.

We hope to see you all there!

Your GEOTOPICS Coordinators,

Keri Vinas and Arash Sharifi
