Friends and members of the Greater Miami chapter of the AMS,
We have scheduled our next chapter meeting for next Monday (May 23rd) at 10:30 AM in the first floor conference of
AOML on Virginia Key.  Dr. Peter Ortner, director of the Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Sciences (CIMAS),
will give a talk on:

"The New CIMAS: Enhanced Climate and Weather Science Capabilities and Opportunities"

In October 2010,  CIMAS was re-invented and expanded through NOAA's Cooperative Institute re-competition process.
On the university side, CIMAS now includes not just UM/RSMAS but also FAU, FIU, UF, NOVA, USF, FSU, UVI and UPR.
After a brief review of the Cooperative Institute context, the remainder of the presentation will focus upon the enhanced
climate and weather capabilities now offered through the Institute.

In addition, since this is our last meeting before the start of hurricane season, we will have our chapter elections.
Some of you may already know, but our last VP/Sec. Dan Dixon and Treasurer Candace Campos have moved on to
better things, so we need to install replacement officers.  Volunteering themselves for office are Robert Black for chapter
Vice President/Secretary and Xuejin Zhang for Treasurer Falko Judt has renominated himself for chapter president.
For pictures and a brief bio on these candidates see our chapter website :
We will provide ballots at the meeting with write-in slots for all offices in case you want to put your own name in.
Please note that we will also be collecting dues ($10) for the coming year as we need to replenish our coffers.
