THE ELEVENTH INTERGOVERNMENTAL SESSION OF THE UNESCO IOC SUB-COMMISSION FOR THE CARIBBEAN AND ADJACENT REGIONS (IOCARIBE)
PANEL DISCUSSION The Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies (CIMAS) is currently hosting the 11th Intergovernmental Session of the UNESCO IOC Subcommission’s meeting for the Caribbean and Adjacent Regions (IOCARIBE), May 17-20. Forty delegates from 30 countries are attending working sessions at the University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science, located at 4600 Rickenbacker Causeway, Miami. Delegates are discussing regional ocean issues such as, coastal zone management, climate change, harmful algal blooms ocean observing systems and coastal warning systems, among others. From 2 – 4 PM today (Thursday, May 19), Journalists and members of the University community are invited to attend a panel discussion in the Rosenstiel School Auditorium. Speakers will discuss two closely related issues: the need for regional capacity building in the marine and environmental sciences and the challenge of sustainable development within the context of predicted regional climate change. The moderator will be Dr. Cesar Toro, Head of UNESCO IOC Regional Office for IOCARIBE.
