- Scientists &
Engineers Expanding Diversity & Success (SEEDS) hosts a
half day workshop with Dr. Ellen Daniell. For
over 30 years, Ellen Daniell has been part of a professional
problem solving group of women (and some men) who have
attained extraordinary distinction in various scientific
fields. Their group meets every other week to help one
another with the professional and personal challenges of
managing highly competitive careers and fulfilling lives. She authored the inspiring and useful book
Every Other Thursday, which is highly recommended. This half-day
workshop titled "Strategies
from a professional problem solving group" will be held
in the Lois Pope Auditorium on February 8th and will run from 11:00am to 4:00 pm.
She will give a talk, hold a book signing and have two small
break out sessions to practice the techniques discussed in her
talk. Lunch will be provided. Her workshop is
supported by a SEEDS You Choose award to Dr. Paula Monje,
Miller School of Medicine. To RSVP

- Scientists & Engineers Expanding Diversity & Success
(SEEDS) is hosting a seminar at the RSMAS campus on Tuesday,
February 22, 2011 in the SLAB seminar room at 12:00 Noon, on
dual-career hires in academia titled "Dual-career programs,
policies, and practices: A comprehensive look at best
practices in higher education." The presenter, Nancy
Aebersold is the Executive Director of National Higher Education
Recruitment Consortium (HERC) one of the most successful
collaborative models for addressing dual-career issues. She has
11 years of experience as a higher education practitioner with
deep subject matter expertise in dual-career research and
programming. Her talk is open to all. Lunch will follow her
seminar and is open to faculty, grad students, and post docs who

- Scientists & Engineers Expanding Diversity & Success
(SEEDS) is sponsoring a Negotiations Workshop on February
25, 2011 in the Hurricane 100 Room. This workshop will be
led by Dr. Barbara Butterfield, member of the COACH leadership
team through the National Science Foundation and is designed to
build understanding of mutual interest based negotiation or
solution finding. Participants will evaluate their personal
problem solving styles. Case practice will include a
competitive job offer, committee service, salary increase, and
assuring research resources. Two sessions will be held; the
AM session is open to junior faculty and runs from 8-12, the
PM session is open to post docs and graduate students and runs
1-5. This workshop is made possible through a SEEDS
Working Within Fund managed by Steering Committee Member, Dr.
Barbara Whitlock, Associate Professor of Biology in the College
