Werner Alpers is one of the pioneers of ocean remote sensing by active
microwave instruments. Working in this field since 1973, he has made
significant contributions to the theories of Synthetic Aperture Radar
imaging of ocean waves, shallow-water bathymetry, oceanic internal waves,
surface films, ship wakes, and various atmospheric features over the ocean.
He has been a PI of many German and international research projects, and he
has authored and co-authored more than 110 peer-reviewed papers.
