} As the Gulf Coast struggles with the consequences of the worst offshore oil spill in U.S. history, the significant role that coastal zones and oceans play in the overall health of our planet and society has taken center stage. Not only are our oceans a resource for fuel, food and jobs, but there is increasing evidence that they may play a significant role in medicine. Oceans and human health researchers have identified a range of benefits to humans from the world's oceans, and growing evidence suggests that access to the natural environment may improve health and well-being, prevent disease and help people recover from illness. This panel will explore how this emerging discipline is translating into new approaches and new opportunities in preventative health care â from out of the blue.
