Reminder and Change to
Monday Only: 2nd Annual NCORE University-wide Coral Reef
Forum 9 AM –
5 PM, Monday August 23, 2010 SLAB Seminar Room,
RSMAS This is a completely open forum.
All interested persons are invited to the presentations and group discussions
for this important annual forum. All presenters – please
limit your talks to ten minutes each (generally 5-10 slides). These will be
followed by five minutes for immediate discussion. Longer discussions are
scheduled before noon and from 4-5 PM. These will give us a chance to follow up
on ideas generated, suggest new approaches, and work towards future proposals. Please check the enclosed
schedule for provisional times and corrections. I will send out a final
schedule this weekend. Further details updated from
earlier announcements follow below. See you all on Monday!! From: John McManus
[mailto:jmcmanus@rsmas.miami.edu] By popular demand, the deadline
for submitting titles for the Coral reef Forum has been extended until Monday
noon, August 16. Abstracts will not be needed. Please ensure that all UM
labs engaged in any form of coral reef research are represented. This is very
important for planning future collaborations. We would like to invite the lead
person from any UM or adjunct lab engaged in coral reef research, or a
representative, to give a brief overview of the work ongoing in her/his lab. For these summary presentations,
just send me the name of the lab group or name of the PI and the person
presenting. The National
Center for Coral Reef Research (NCORE) of the University of Miami is pleased to
announce the 2nd Annual NCORE University-wide Coral Reef
Forum August 23, 2010 SLAB Building,
RSMAS Any student, staff, regular faculty, research faculty, or
adjunct faculty member of the University of Miami engaged in coral reef related
research is encouraged to submit a presentation title to: jmcmanus@rsmas.miami.edu.
Please ensure that [FORUM] appears in the subject heading for this and any
matter related to the Forum, lest the communication be lost. The deadline for presentation titles is Monday
noon, 16 August. Each presenter should submit only one presentation,
although co-authorship is not restricted. Include an email address for
communications if different from the return address. The presentation length (probably within 8 -15 minutes) and
choice of rooms will depend on the presentations submitted. Research need not be completed to be presented. The main
objective of the Forum is to foster collaborative thinking and project
development by letting everyone interested know about everyone else’s
coral reef research. We use the term ‘Forum’ to indicate a strong
emphasis on discussion of related topics. The term ‘coral reef’ here is used in the broad
sense of any ecological habitat in which corals play or have played a
substantial ecological role, including seagrass and mangrove systems residing
on coral reef frameworks. Research topics can include physical, chemical,
geological, biological, or socio-economic aspects, including management issues,
and combinations of these. Attendance at the Forum will be open to all interested
parties, including incoming students. Sincerely, John John W. McManus, PhD Director, National Center for
Coral Reef Research (NCORE) Professor, Marine Biology and
