Subject: SEMINAR: AMP student seminar thursday at noon
Date: Tue, 20 Apr 2010 14:36:36 -0400 (EDT)

As promised the info regarding Tripp Collins' presentation:

*Inter-comparison of Directional Wave Spectra Derived from In Situ
Measurements*

* *

*Abstract*

The directional spectrum of ocean surface waves is a useful way to think
about the temporal and directional properties of ocean waves and it is a
general way of talking about a given sea state. Furthermore, important
sea state parameters such as significant wave height (Hs), and peak
period (Tp) and directional spread can be derived directly from the
directional spectra of measured data. In this student seminar I will
go over directional spectrum basics, including measurement, data
analysis, representation, and interpretation while being especially
mindful of assumptions made at each step along the way. The seminar will
conclude with a look at a new quantitative visualization tool available
for inter-comparison of directional wave spectra measured from in situ
wave buoys.

kind regards,

Ad Reniers
