"Carbon Capture and Storage"

Summary:

Carbon sequestration, also known as carbon capture and storage (CCS) is one of several technologies currently being tested to reduce the effects of anthropogenic emission of CO2 and resulting climate modification.  The concept is to use depleted oil and natural gas reservoirs, as well as deep saline formations, for long term storage of CO2 fluid.    One of the challenges is to verify that the sequestered CO2 remains in the reservoir for long periods of time.  In this talk we will review the current state of the art, and describe geophysical and geochemical research being conducted at RSMAS on this  technology.
