Calling all students, faculty and staff: Please join us for a special SEEDS sponsored event . . .

The Rosenstiel School’s WOMEN IN SCIENCE PANEL DISCUSSION

To be held April 20, 2010 at 11am in the S/A Seminar room, RSMAS campus

The maximum capacity for this event is 40 participants.

Once that limit is reached, the event will be closed. Please click here to register now and guarantee your spot.

Are you aware that although close to 50% of PhD students are women, women make up less than 16% of tenured science faculty (Babco 2000, Holmes et al. 2003)? Or that historically, women scientists publish fewer papers than males, but receive more citations per paper (Culotta 1993, Holton 1998)?

On April 20th, women from a diverse array of disciplines and backgrounds will share their insights into the nuances that women face while pursuing a profession in marine science.  Panelists for this event will include eight marine scientists from five different academic divisions and a variety of career paths. They will pass on lessons learned and share their experiences, with the goals of fostering a sense of community and kinship at RSMAS, and providing guidance and support for students who are just embarking on their professional journeys. The one and a half hour panel discussion will be followed by a casual catered lunch, allowing an opportunity for expanded informal discussion among all participants.
