The Island School
The Island School
is a 14-week semester program for high school sophomores and
juniors on the island of Eleuthera in the Bahamas. Traditional
coursework is augmented by outdoor education including SCUBA
diving and sea kayak expeditions, for nourishing the
students’ interest for the marine environment.
The
program aims to reinforce students’ passion for the ocean
and marine life, while installing in them a sense of
environmental awareness, conservation and natural resource
management.
Dr. Daniel Benetti is a faculty member at the
Island School, teaches students about aquaculture, why it is
important and what factors must be considered for a successful
program. Instead of supplying technical analyses, Benetti gives
students a practical education in how knowing more about the
ocean can make a difference in the relationship humans have with
food from the sea and our methods of obtaining it.
