Welcome! Today is

The Goal of the Intra-Americas Sea Initiative (IASI) is to develop and promote an international, multi-institutional effort to improve understanding of the connectivity and societal impacts of climate variability, oceanography, geology, and ecology in the Intra-Americas Sea (Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico) and adjacent regions.

How our Website Works: Select a topic of interest from the menu to your left. IASInitiative.org will provide you with current and historic information about the natural systems of the Intra-Americas Sea region, and Internet links to the people and institutions who explore and help manage these systems. We want to be your clearinghouse for regional environmental and development issues, whether you are an academic researcher, teacher, student, interested citizen, resource manager, agency employee, or developer. Contributions to this site are encouraged and appreciated!

Extended PATOMAC Seminars
Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science
Key Biscayne, Florida, U.S.A. - Summer 2003

The PATOMAC extended seminar consists of a 10-day program, which will be repeated in July and August of 2003. The program consists of 7 days of land-based discussions in various aspects of oceanographic data acquisition and analysis, together with a 3-day research cruise.

PATOMAC

There are two goals to this program:

To familiarize technical experts in Latin America and the Caribbean with the latest and most advanced methods and equipment used in ocean research that are needed to fulfill requirements for such governmental requirements as carrying out environmental impact studies.

To familiarize oceanographic research associates and technicians in the use of the specific types of equipment purchased by this program. This program will serve as a "license" whereby these individuals can gain access to the equipment in this equipment pool for their own work.

This program is funded by the United States Environmental Protection Agency. For more information, check out the schedule and logistics page.
