Dr. Nolan's specialties are dynamic meteorology, vortex dynamics, and computational fluid dynamics. His present research is focused on the behavior of hurricanes and tornadoes, swirling boundary layers, and the dynamics of stretched and strained vortices. He is also involved in the development of the Weather Research and Forecasting Model (WRF) as an operational hurricane forecasting system.
