Broadly, my research interests are in large scale ocean circulation and its role in climate. In particular, the study of Western Boundary Currents, such as the Agulhas Current, in terms of structure, transports, water masses, and mixing, and the measurement and estimation of basin-wide thermohaline fluxes, such as the Atlantic Meridional Overturning. I use in situ measurement techniques, including lowered and shipboard acoustic velocity profiling and moored current meter arrays. My community work revolves around the retention of women in oceanography and the advancement of resources to improve our understanding of the climatic importance of the Greater Agulhas System, both regionally and globally.
