Marine Science Program

Marine Science/Chemistry

Marine Science: Introduction to Marine Science (MSC 111), Marine Chemistry (215), Marine Chemistry lab (216), Marine Biology (230), Physical Oceanography (301), either Marine Biology Lab (232), or Physical Oceanography Lab (302), and 12 elective credits in Marine Science, at least 6 of which must be at the 300-level or higher. Chemistry (from Fall 2014): Principles of Chemistry I and II with labs (CHM 111, 112, 113, 114), Organic Chemistry I and II with labs (201, 202, 205, 206), Structural Identification of Organic Compounds (304), Analytical Chemistry (316), Instrumental Methods (320), Physical Chemistry I with lab (360, 364), Physical Chemistry II (365), Inorganic Chemistry (441), Biochemistry for Medical Sciences (BMB  401) and one of Chemistry of Food (CHM 317), Environmental Chemistry (401), or any 500-level Chemistry course as described for Chemistry BS majors. Chemistry (Before Fall 2014): CHM 111, 112, 113, 114, 201, 202, 205, 206, 304, 316, 320, 360, 364, 365, and one of 401, 441, 520, 563, BMB 401 or BMB 506
 

Biology: Either General Biology with lab (BIL 150, 151), or Evolution & Biodiversity with lab (160, 161)


Geological Science: Earth System History (GSC 111) OR Earth System with lab (GSC 110, 114)

 

Mathematics: Calculus I and II (MTH 161, 162) and one semester of a computer programming or statistics course. The following classes are approved to satisfy the computer/statistics requirement: MSC 204, MTH 224, Computer Science 120.

 

Physics: University Physics (PHY 205, 206, 207, with one lab, either 208 or 209).

 

English: Composition I and II (ENG 105, 106)

 

Arts and Humanities cognate (9 credits)


People and Society cognate (9 credits)


Three credits of elective (six credits, including three at 300+ level, prior to Fall 2014), to be approved by advisor.
