At the age of nine, a trip to the grocery store for hurricane supplies left an indelible mark on Eric Weiss. “Hurricane Floyd was bearing down on Florida and everyone was rushing to get in and out with supplies. At the very front of the store were several televisions all tuned to The Weather Channel’s up-to-the minute alerts. I was instantly fascinated and have tracked the tropics with keen interest ever since,” says Weiss.
As a first year Honors student at the University of Miami majoring in meteorology, the sky’s the limit in more ways than one. After spending two summers at marine biology camp in the Florida Keys, Weiss is looking to be a part of the Rosenstiel School’s world-class marine and atmospheric science research resources. “I wanted to have an education in Meteorology and be able to have close ties to the National Hurricane Center (NHC). Seeing as the NHC is based in Miami, and the Rosenstiel School is one of the top atmospheric schools in the nation, my decision to come here was easy.”
