Marine Affairs & Policy

Letter From Chair

David Letson

Welcome to the Division of Marine Affairs and Policy. I think we could make a good case that this division is the ultimate destination of all the marine and atmospheric science that goes on throughout the school. Sound policy and management decisions that we discuss and address in our research and studies MUST be based on great science.

It’s not surprising then, with the astounding amount of great science that does happen at the Rosenstiel School that this division of marine affairs and policy would be so strong. We boast the largest student population at the school with 53 graduate students, and all of our work covers an assortment of issues that offer opportunities to travel near and far. Whether its coastal management issues in Brazil, aquaculture prospects around the United States, encroachment issues around a Paleoindian marine archeology site, socioeconomic impacts of marine protected areas, or a wide number of other topical concerns, students, research staff, and faculty are exploring creative ways to address them.

I invite you to explore our Web pages and learn more. With science and policy the search never ends. As we learn more, we answer some questions, but raise so many more.
