Applied Marine Physics

Welcome to the Division of Applied Marine Physics.

AMP faculty, staff and student are engaged in a wide range of exciting basic and applied ocean research activities. Most of these activities relate to upper ocean and coastal processes, and electromagnetic and acoustic remote sensing of the ocean. Examples of our work include: disaster mitigation studies linked to landfalling hurricanes and freak waves at sea; modelling complex coastal ocean circulation patterns and their influence on biota; use of in situ, shore- and satellite-based electromagnetic sensors to monitor upper ocean and air-sea exchange processes; and use of sound for underwater and sub-bottom imaging systems. We have several unique experimental facilities that aid us in our studies.

Please tour our web pages to learn more. We hope that these pages give a sense of the excitement and enthusiasm that we have for our work.
