Welcome to the Division of Applied Marine Physics.

The 2012-2013 Academic year is now upon us and there are many exciting developments on campus. AMP faculty, staff and students have been engaged all summer in a wide range of basic and applied ocean research activities. We welcome the addition of Dr. Linwood Vincent to our faculty and the recent promotion of Dr. Ad Reniers and Dr. Clair Paris to the tenured Associate Professor ranks. We also welcome the arrival four new students in the PhD program for fall 2012.  The campus is undergoing a major renovation as the Marine Technology and Life Sciences Seawater building is rapidly rising from the ground and taking shape before our eyes (see http://www.rsmas.miami.edu/seawater/webcam/ for the latest image).  It will house the unique SUrge-STructure-Atmosphere-Interaction (SUSTAIN) laboratory that will be used to advance fundamental research in coastal construction, hydrodynamics and air-sea interaction in extreme winds. The CSTARS satellite receiving facility continues to expand its role in disaster response and mitigation (http://www.cstars.miami.edu/). Examples of the research that our faculty are actively engaged in include: disaster mitigation studies linked to land-falling hurricanes; modelling complex coastal ocean circulation patterns and their influence on biota and oil transport. The  use of in situ, shore- and satellite-based electromagnetic sensors to monitor upper ocean and air-sea exchange processes; and use of sound for underwater and sub-bottom imaging systems. Please tour our web pages to learn more. We hope that these pages give a sense of the excitement and enthusiasm that we have for our work.

Please tour our web pages to learn more, and feel free to contact any of  the persons listed to inquire about our efforts. We hope that these pages give a sense of the excitement and enthusiasm that we have for our work.
