ABSTRACT
This talk analyzes surface transport in Monterey Bay using the velocity field described by Kirwan and Lipphardt. Particle trajectories are described by a finite time, nonstationary process and we describe a technique for studying whether a particle escapes to the open ocean, or has an encounter with the coast, as a function of space and time. Results for both 1994 and 1999 are presented. Collaborators in this effort are Kayo Ide, Denny Kirwan, Bruce Lipphardt, Chet Grosch, and Jeff Paduan.
