	Dr. Foster Brown
	Dr. Foster Brown received a BA from Amherst College in 1973, and an MS (1979) and Ph.D. (1981) from the Department of Geological Sciences of Northwestern University. He is currently an Associate Scientist at The Woods Hole Research Center and a part-time Associate Professor at the Graduate Program in Geochemistry of the Universidade Federal Fluminense, Niteroi, RJ, Brazil.

	Mr. Kenny Tanizaki (Project Assistant)
	Kenny Tanizaki-Fonseca got his BS in Biology from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and his MSc in Environmental Geochemistry/Federal Fluminense University (UFF). He is finishing his PhD in Environmental Geochemistry/UFF, with carbon flux in the Atlantic Coastal Forest in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He works in the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ/IBRAG/Ecology Sector) and has been sponsored by Rio de Janeiro Research Agency (FAPERJ) and World Wildlife Foundation (WWF).

	Dr. José Paruelo
	Dr. José Paruelo is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Ecology, School of Agronomy, University of Buenos Aires. He is also a Research Scientist affiliated with Argentina's CONICET (Science & Technology Council). He received a BS in Agronomy (1984) and an MS in Natural Resources (1991) from the University of Buenos Aires. He completed his doctorate (1995) at the Department of Rangeland Ecosystem Sciences, Colorado State University, USA. In 1993, he received the KONEX Award for Ecological Research from Fundación KONEX (Argentina) for the project "El impacto de la desertificación sobre la capacidad de carga de las estepas patagónicas: sus consecuencias económicas", by J. M. Paruelo and O. E. Sala.

Research Interests

Dr. Paruelo's research interests include:

• Grassland Ecology
• Remote sensing
• Simulation models

Dr. Paruelo is Principal Investigator of the project "A regional assessment of landuse impact on ecosystem function and structure in temperate areas of North and South America", funded by phase 3 of the Initial Science Program of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research.
